The Smartpark Innovation Hub project, located at the University of Manitoba’s Fort Gary Campus is a 4-storey building totaling around 75, 000 ft² (6968 m²) in floor area.

The project designer, Cibinel Architecture Ltd., is the Winnipeg based firm which was also chosen to design University of Manitoba’s Environmental Safety Building and Active Living Centre.

Peikko is proud to have been chosen as the structural solution provider for this innovative project.

Crosier Kilgour & Partners Ltd., the designated structural engineering firm working on the project chose DELTABEAM® to solve the height restriction problem they were faced with as well as to meet a very tight construction schedule.

For this impressive project, 10’(250 mm) DELTABEAM® composite beams were used. This particular DELTABEAM® project is different compared to most that have been done in North America to date, as cantilevering DELTABEAM® is used continuously all around the building and made possible thanks to DELTABEAM® composite beams' versatility. A massive transfer beam was used in the middle of the building to support a column from the top in tension allowing for a clear span of 39.4 ft (about 12 m) for a large conference room.

The hub will house laboratories, prototyping suites, multimedia classrooms, conference rooms and business incubator space, and is expected to be completed end of October 2018.
